Tips on how to write a Book Report

Writing a Book Report is thought by many students as a boring writing exercise, but it can be interesting too. They do not realize the benefits and the importance of this exercise early on. Writing a book report will increase many of their reading abilities. It will open up their minds about the various things in life and realize the value of life. These are the invisible benefits. The visible benefits are their vocabulary will increase. As they have to write a report about a book, they will concentrate on the book well and will try to remember or note down important points. This practice will benefit them by increasing their concentration and will also let them practice the best ways to highlight and note down important points.

There are ways through which one can write a book report.

• The first and the foremost thing is, not just reading the book but to study it. Studying the book requires devoting 100% attention on the book. And how good the person might be in studying, one tends to forget one or more important points. They need to note down those important points. So, from each chapter, the important point or turning point should be noted.

• Secondly, after all the points have been noted, the actual report writing begins. In this part, a basic introduction about the book, the author, the brief storyline (if fiction), the message that the author is trying to convey through the book, the tone of the literature, etc have to be mentioned.
• Then, in the third stage the points that you have noted down must be mentioned, of course according to the need. The points that were noted, have to mentioned and they have to explained by the reader as the most important thing in writing the book report is the reader’s understanding of the book.

• Finally, the report must contain a balance of the general and the specific ideas from the book and avoid abstract ideas. Putting in abstract ideas will convey that the reader had read the book properly.

Summarize the overall significance of the book. What do you think is best about the book, what has the book given to the world in terms of knowledge or experience. What do you think is the most interesting thing in the book. Questioning and answering these questions by oneself will give the right answers for the book report.
